More about Albert

The favourite part of my job is when I see a client realising the potential within them to bring about a change: that ‘aha!’ moment.

What is your background?

I am a qualified medical doctor and certified life coach. I have worked in the health and wellness industry for 10 years, across 4 continents and in more than 8 countries. My varied interests and diverse skill-set has allowed me to work across a broad range of industries. These include general medicine, wellness, health innovation and technology, music production and even hosting a South African wellness television program.

What is your role in Original Intent?

I am the founder of Original Intent, and started the company in 2014 as a way to bring together experienced practitioners, dedicated to supporting our clients in a holistic way. When we work as a team, we are better equipped to take care of your body, mind and soul.

As director of Original Intent, I ensure that all our practitioners work together in a co-ordinated way, delivering the best possible service to our clients. As I also consult our clients in the capacity of a certified life coach, helping each individual achieve their relational, health and wellbeing goals.

What is your story?

At age 5, when I had barely started reading, my parents gave me a book entitled: “1001 Questions and Answers.” Paging through that large book with it’s red cover and bright yellow lettering is one of my favourite childhood memories. I would read and re-read the factoids about how the world works – enthralled by the amazing complexity of it all! Questions like: What is the largest animal? How fast does a nerve-impulse travel? How deep is the deepest part of the sea? and How many planets are in our solar system?

This insatiable curiosity about the universe and it’s inhabitants is the golden thread running throughout my career. Over the past 10 years, it has served me well in my work as general practitioner, health innovation consultant and life coach.

The reason I have migrated from mainstream healthcare into life coaching, was in response to a growing frustration: a frustration with the fragmented health system. Despite the incredible wealth of treatments and cures offered by general medicine, I couldn’t turn a blind eye to the shortcomings: The disheartened patient when doctors cannot provide them with a ‘by-the-book’ diagnosis; the helplessness of the doctor, when a patient struggles to break their unhealthy habits; the confusion when a patient is ‘cured’ on paper, but they still experience suffering and pain.

This mounting frustration inspired me to explore further, burned by the question: isn’t there a better way to serve people?

It is this burning question that lead me into the field of health innovation, finding creative solutions to give patients access to doctors. That same question lead me into the world of integral coaching and changed my entire perspective of health and wellness. I discovered that every person has an inherent ability to master their own lives; and that, through a series of powerful coaching questions, this innate wisdom can be unlocked, opening entirely new possibilities of health and wholeness.

How do you view health?

My definition of true health (similar to that of the WHO) is not simply the absence of disease or pain; it is not that moment when your cough clears up or when your doctor says: “You’re cured.”

True health is when you have the freedom and capacity to choose and live into every square inch of your being, and share yourself fully with others.

This is life in abundance.

What brings you joy in your work?

The favourite part of my job is when I see a client realising the potential within them to bring about a change: that ‘aha!’moment.

I believe that each of us can be competent interpreters of our lives, and that all of us require support and encouragement to do this most effectively.

I find the greatest joy in seeing my clients become more fully human!

It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question. – Eugene Ionesco
